Smt. Sheila Dikshit ,CM Delhi reviewed water shortage being faced by people in different areas of Delhi at Varunalaya.

Smt. Sheila Dikshit, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Delhi and Chairperson Delhi Jal Board today, in a meeting held at Varunalaya, DJB’s Headquarter, reviewed the issues concerning water shortage being faced by people in different areas of Delhi. The Chief Secretary, Sh. P.K. Tripathi, CEO, DJB Smt. Debashree Mukherjee and all Chief Engineers, SEs and other senior officers were present.

The Chief Minister was also briefed on problems being faced by Delhi Jal Board concerning the availability of raw water from Haryana. It was informed that Haryana is presently supplying 385 cusec and not the stated 425 cusec, to Haiderpur WTP. As a result, the present production at Haiderpur has come down to about 192 MGD as against the normal production of 210 MGD. The shortage of 18 MGD results in shortage of water causing hardship to a population of approx 1 million people, particularly in view of the rising temperatures in Delhi.

In fact, the crisis concerning shortage of raw water is even greater today, as the Wazirabad pond level has gone down to  672.8 feet above sea level as against the stipulated level of 674.5 feet which is required to maintain normal production at Wazirabad Water Treatment Plant.. The constant pursuance of CE (WW), DJB with CE (YWS), Haryana Irrigation Department has not received any response to improve the situation. The Member Secretary, Upper Yamuna River Board, Ministry of Water Resources has been requested is made to immediately intervene in the matter and advise Haryana to also maintain the canal level at 710 feet and allow free flow to Haiderpur Water Treatment Plant so that the stated 425 cusec, is actually available at Haiderpur.

The Chief Minister expressed concern about reports concerning malpractices in supply of free tanker water. It is clarified for the information of all the DJB consumers that tankers are supplied free of cost in areas facing shortage of water. In case of any person indulging in malpractices for supply of DJB tankers, a complaint may be lodged via SMS on the following cell phone no. 9650290707 or on e-mail at cvodjb@gmail.com. Any complaint/ information given on the above  will be treated as confidential and immediate action will be taken.

DJB is committed  to provide potable water to the citizens of Delhi. The Hon’ble Chief Minister directed the officers and staff members of Delhi Jal Board to remain vigilant to take care of any complaint/eventuality particularly to ensure that leakages are immediately rectified/repaired. The CM, further told DJB to regulate all direct tappings  and remove illegal tappings in order to achieve equitable distribution of water supply.

To ensure that there is no contamination of water during its transmission, 163 kms of rusty/corroded lines were replaced by DJB in the year 2011. To augment water supply 80 new tube-wells have been installed in the water deficient areas. Consequently, the water supply in these areas has improved considerably. In the year 2011, 148 Nos. of Tube-wells were re-bored/re-energized.  317 (Deep Bore Hand Pupms) were also installed in the year 2011.
