Delhi, 1 May 2015
The woman plays a vital role in shaping a society and it is said that ‘if you educate a man, you educate an individual; if you educate a woman, you educate a generation’ but today the issue of female foeticide has become a serious problem in the Indian society. One can judge the gravity of the problem by the view of Supreme Court which has taken a serious concern over lack of improvement in the sex ratio in the national capital. This was stated by Delhi Women and Child Minister Shri Sandeep Kumar in a programme on the occasion of May (Labour) Day Celebration. The New Delhi Municipal Workers Union and Bhagidari Jan Sahyog Samiti have jointly organized the programme at Auditorium, NDMC Convention Centre today. The programme is supported by NDMC.
On this occasion, a demo of Self Defence will be given by NDMC women employees who were trained by Delhi Police through 10 days training programme. The Special Police Unit for Women and Children has trained 120 women employees in the training programme. The Delhi Police have trained around one lakh women from year 2000 to till date. Shri Sandeep Kumar also presented medals to the successful women employees.
He appealed to these women employees to not only to continue their practice of the self defence training but also to carry out this process by training other women in their locality so that women also feel empowered which will increase their self esteem. He said apart from this, the women have to raise their voice against the domestic violence also which has become a major social problem in modern society.
Shri Sandeep Kumar said the self esteem and respect of the women is a must as without this modern society cannot develop in real senses. In this, the women have to take a lead while standing against it but have to educate other women folk about the problem. In this society would definitely support the women as there is no dearth of sensitive persons in society.
