DELHI JAL BOARD INSTALLS 10 NEW TANKER BASED ATM’S IN RAJ NAGAR AREA
DJB installs10 new tanker based water ATMs in Raj Nagar Area
New Delhi: The Delhi Jal Board has received a favorable response for the successful functioning of the R.O. (Reverse Osmosis) based water ATMs in Sawda-Ghevra. DJB has also installed 10 new water ATMs, based on a different model, in the resettlement colonies of South-West Delhi viz 5 water ATMs in the Raj Nagar and another 5 in Raja Puri area. All the ATMs in the area are fully operational for public use. This will help supplement water supply in water deficit areas, providing the consumers with an automated, easily accessible, demand based affordable supply system.
This model is slightly different from the Sawda-Ghevra model as the water ATMs in Raj Nagar and Raja Puri areas are being supported with treated water from DJB source through tanker services maintained by DJB. Depending upon the requirement, DJB tankers will make trips to the area for refilling of water ATMs.
The consumers are provided with a prepaid swipe card in order to draw water from the kiosk and each family gets one card for use. More than 500 cards have already been issued. In order to expedite the process, more cards are being issued on daily basis. The purpose is to bring in the maximum number of residents under this scheme to reap the benefit at the earliest. This will enable the residents to have easy and quick access to potable water. The customer can draw upto 20 liters of water at once, or less, in a day depending upon the need. Money is deducted automatically from the Smart Card according to the amount of water withdrawn from the ATM. The smart card can be recharged.
The water ATMs have become very popular among the residents in the area. With the availability of drinking water round the clock at their doorstep, residents will be able to live a convenient life. This is also expected to improve the health and hygiene condition of the people, thereby, bringing in considerable changes in the living condition of the residents in the area.
This has enabled DJB to provide potable water facility in the area where, due to lack of technical and resource constraints, piped water could not be supplied. It has further strengthened DJB’s efforts of transformation from an engineering driven organization to a service delivery utility. DJB, in its constant endeavor to provide quality service to its consumers, will continue to bring in new innovations to enable DJB further improve its service delivery system.
