Extension of sewerage facilities in unauthorized colonies to help in the abatement of pollution in the Yamuna River
In line with its sustained efforts to extend sewerage services to new areas of Delhi, the Board is expediting provision of sewerage facilities in those parts of the city where laying of sewer lines is technically feasible. Sewerage facilities have been extended in 7 unauthorised colonies namely: Chanakya Place, Sita puri, Keshoram Park, New Jankipuri, Jai Bharat Enclave Amar shopping complex Kakroula Moad, Bhagwati Garden extn. Uttam Nagar and Bhagwati Garden Najafgarh Road. These colonies were notified in June, 2015. In these areas, notifications have also been issued advising individuals to avail the sewer connections. This will benefit thousand of households of these colonies.
Similarly, sewerage facilities have also recently been extended in the unauthorized colonies of Heera Park, Najafgarh and Vishkarma, near Pulprehlad pur, South Delhi. The notification advising people of these areas to take sewer connections, is in the process of being issued. The work of extending sewerage facilities in adjacent areas is also in progress and more colonies are likely to be benefitted in a phased manner. The work is in progress and ultimately 100 colonies are expected to be benefitted.
Earlier, sewage was flowing in open drains in Chanakya Place, Sita puri, Keshoram Park, New Jankipuri colonies but now the sewage will be conveyed to the Pappankalan STP where the sewage will be treated and only clean treated effluent will be discharged into the Yamuna River. Similarly, the sewage flowing in open drains in Jai Bharat Enclave Amar shopping complex Kakroula Moad, Bhagwati Garden Extn. Uttam Nagar and Bhagwati Garden Najafgarh Road colonies will now be conveyed to the Nilothi STP and post treatment, it will be discharged into the river course. This process will ensure two fold benefits; the sanitary conditions will improve in these areas and it will also help in the abatement of pollution in the Yamuna River.
DJB would also like to bring to the notice of its consumers, that in unauthorised colonies where the water and sewer system have already been laid and notified the relaxed rate of Rs. 100/- per sq. mtr. (separately for water and sewer) would be applicable for three months w.e.f. 26.06.2015. This facility is applicable on D, E, F, G and H categories of unauthorized colonies, being used for residential purposes with a plotted area upto and including 200 sq. mtrs. for plots under domestic and mixed use category.
DJB, in its endeavour to provide sewerage facilities in the city, is expanding its facilities to meet its mandate of bringing in maximum areas under its sewerage system and will continue to explore new areas to enhance its services and establish a benchmark for itself as a utility in the water and wastewater sector.
