DELHI POLICE LAUNCHES OPERATION NIRBHEEK TO EDUCATE GIRLS STUDENTS ON VARIOUS ASPECTS OF SEXUAL OFFENCES

‘Operation Nirbheek’

The North West District police has launched Operation Nirbheek with a designated women police official in Prabhu Dayal Public School in Shalimar Bagh today. The designated Nirbheek Women Police Officer (NWPO) namely W/SI Bishambri Bisht PS Shalimar Bagh will coordinate school authority and interact with girls students at an earmarked briefing place. She will encourage participative interaction and allow the girls to express freely and unhesitatingly.

The Operation ‘Nirbheek’ of Delhi is an initiative to spread awareness in girls/co-ed school to educate girls students about various aspects of sexual offences of which innocently or inadvertently they become victim, to instill confidence in them, to report to police for legal action and to involve parents and community to win their confidence and seek their participation in handling these sensitive issues.

The Nirbheek Women Police Officer (NWPO) was introduced on the occasion of   Self Defence Training programme in which as many as 250 girls of Prabhu Dayal Public School, Shalimar Bagh have been imparted Self Defence Training under the aegis of Parivartan Cell of North-West District.  Students from class 6th to 9th participated in the self defense training programme.  Techniques imparted to the participants include punches – upper, middle, lower, temple attack, knife attack, board breaking & tiles breaking etc.  The participants presented demo of the techniques which they learnt during training program.  The Demos of breaking wooden boards and tiles by girls was applauded by the audience.

Students also gave a power-point presentation showing role/status of women in different ages since Vedic period. Empowerment of women through education, women are agent of change, the ultimate libration and what the Delhi Police have done for the safety and security of women were the focal point. During interaction, the participants expressed confidence and felt more capable to handle unforeseen situations after undergoing the Self Defence Training programme.

The undersigned called upon them to continue practicing of the techniques they learnt during the camp. The training not only instills a sense of confidence but also help in inculcating discipline, commitment and self-belief. The training would prove to be a milestone in their life. They were also briefed about working of Himmat App, Operation ‘Shishtachar’. The participants were also given away certificate on participation in Self Defence Training programme of Parivartan Cell, North West District.

The programme began with lightning of lamps followed by reciting a song namely ‘Mardani’ based on women empowerment. Sh. A. K Sharma, Principal, Sh. V.K Tyagi chairman and Smt. Vimla Bhatia manager of the school management also graced the occasion. The undersigned thanked them for arranging logistic and to make the Operation Nirbheek launch. Soon other schools/ colleges will also be covered under Operation Nirbheek in North West District.
